1 Chronicles 22:18

Posted on 18 May at 11:31

Is not the Lord your God with you? and hath he not giuen you rest on euery side? for he hath giuen the inhabitants of the land into mine hand, and the land is subdued before the Lord, and before his people. 1 Chronicles 22:18 (KJV)

The quotation appears in the King James Version of 1 Chronicles 22:18, yet its exact origin is uncertain. It does not appear verbatim in any known translation of the Hebrew Bible, and there is no scriptural record of David speaking these precise words while preparing the temple that his son Solomon would build. Readers, however, often draw spiritual lessons from the passage.

The Presence of God: The words remind believers that the LORD is with them. Recognising God’s continual presence can provide comfort, strength, and guidance in all circumstances. Knowing that God is beside us encourages confidence that we are never alone in our endeavors.

Rest and Security: The passage speaks of rest on every side, suggesting the peace and security that come from trusting in God, even amid challenges. True rest is found in reliance on Him, and believers can experience a sense of protection and calm when they place their confidence in the Lord.

Victory and Subduing the Land: While the specific claim that God gave the inhabitants of the land into David’s hand is not documented in Scripture, the broader idea that God supports His people in overcoming obstacles resonates with many biblical narratives. The text highlights that God is actively involved in granting victory to those who follow Him, reminding us that successes are ultimately rooted in divine grace and provision.

Surrendering to God: The concluding thought emphasizes surrender to God’s will and authority. Yielding to His sovereignty allows believers to experience His power and fulfill His purposes. When we acknowledge the Lord’s lordship and allow Him to work through us, we align ourselves with His plans and witness His transformative work in our lives.
