1 Chronicles 28:2
Then Dauid the king stood vp vpon his feete, and said, Heare me, my brethren, and my people: As for me, I had in mine heart to builde an house of rest for the Arke of the Couenant of the Lord, and for the footestoole of our God, & had made ready for the building. 1 Chronicles 28:2 (KJV)
The book of 1 Chronicles provides a detailed account of the genealogies, reign, and accomplishments of King David and his preparations for the construction of the temple in Jerusalem. In this verse, David addresses the people and shares his desire to build a permanent dwelling place for the Ark of the Covenant.
David expresses his deep longing to build a house for the rest of the ark of the covenant and the footstool of God. The ark of the covenant symbolized God’s presence among His people and contained the stone tablets of the Ten Commandments. David desired to honor God by providing a suitable place for His dwelling.
The verse mentions that David had made ready for the building. Prior to this moment, David had been actively involved in gathering materials and making extensive preparations for the construction of the temple. He collected large amounts of gold, silver, precious stones, and other resources to ensure the success of this endeavor.
David’s intention to build a “house for the rest” for the ark of the covenant reveals his understanding of the significance of God’s presence and the need for a permanent abode for it. This indicates David’s desire to establish a place where the people could come to worship God, seek His guidance, and experience His rest.
Although the temple built by Solomon would become a focal point of worship, we understand from the New Testament that believers are now the temple of God. As Christians, our bodies are the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19). Therefore, we should strive to keep our hearts and lives prepared, dedicated, and consecrated to God, offering Him our best and seeking His presence in all that we do.
As we reflect on 1 Chronicles 28:2, we can be inspired by David’s example of devotion and preparation, recognizing the importance of honoring God’s presence in our lives and seeking to create an atmosphere of worship and rest for Him.
