1 Chronicles 28:12

Posted on 18 May at 11:31

“And the pattern of all that he had by the spirit, of the courts of the house of the LORD, and of all the chambers round about, of the treasuries of the house of God, and of the treasuries of the dedicated things.”

This verse is a part of a larger passage where King David is addressing the assembly of leaders, including the princes, officials, captains, and commanders of Israel. In this particular section, David is speaking to his son Solomon, whom he has chosen to succeed him as king and to carry out the task of building the temple for the Lord.

In 1 Chronicles 28, David recounts his desire to build a temple for God but explains that God has chosen Solomon to fulfill this task instead. David acknowledges that God has given him a pattern, or a plan, for the construction of the temple. This pattern encompasses the layout and design of various aspects of the temple, including the courts, chambers, and treasuries.

The phrase “by the spirit” in this verse is significant, as it indicates that the pattern David received was not a mere human invention or a result of his own wisdom. Instead, it was divinely inspired by the Holy Spirit. David, as a man after God’s own heart, sought to align himself with God’s will and to carry out God’s plan.

This verse emphasizes the importance of seeking God’s guidance and relying on the Holy Spirit’s leading in all endeavours, especially those that are directly related to the worship and service of God. It highlights the need to rely on God’s wisdom and direction rather than relying solely on human understanding or personal preferences.

Furthermore, the mention of the treasuries of the house of God and the treasuries of the dedicated things points to the responsibility of stewardship. God’s house and the dedicated things within it were to be managed with care and reverence. This serves as a reminder that all that we have, including our material possessions and resources, ultimately belong to God. We are called to be faithful stewards, using these resources in accordance with God’s will and for His glory.
