1 Chronicles 28:13

Posted on 18 May at 11:32

Also for the courses of the Priests and the Leuites, & for all the worke of the seruice of the house of the Lord, and for all the vessels of seruice in the house of the Lord. 1 Chronicles 28:13 (KJV)

This verse is part of a larger passage in 1 Chronicles 28 where King David is addressing the assembly of Israel and his son Solomon, who would succeed him as king and build the temple.

Historical Context:

During David’s reign, he desired to build a temple for the Lord, but God instructed him through the prophet Nathan that his son Solomon would be the one to fulfill this task. As David’s reign was coming to an end, he gathered the leaders of Israel and his son Solomon to provide instructions for the construction of the temple.

Significance of the Verse:

1 Chronicles 28:13 highlights the preparations David made for the temple. He acknowledges that it is not only important to build the physical structure of the temple but also to organize the priests, Levites, and all the necessary personnel and objects for the service of the Lord’s house.

Priests and Levites:

The verse mentions the priests and Levites, who were responsible for officiating the sacrificial system and maintaining the sanctity of the temple. By naming them, David underscored the need for a systematic arrangement of their duties.

Work of the Service of the House of the Lord:

David also mentions the “work of the service of the house of the LORD.” This encompasses all the tasks and responsibilities associated with maintaining and running the temple, including offerings, sacrifices, prayers, ceremonies, and other functions related to the worship of God.

And also for the work of the service of the house of the LORD, and for the priests, for the Levites, for the singers, for the gatekeepers, for the porters, and for the musicians.

Vessels of Service in the House of the Lord:

The “vessels of service” refer to the various sacred objects and utensils used in the temple. These vessels were employed in the rituals and ceremonies, such as the Ark of the Covenant, the altar, the table of showbread, and various golden and silver utensils. David ensures that these vessels were prepared and made ready for the service of the Lord.

Overall, 1 Chronicles 28:13 emphasizes the importance of organization and preparation in the worship and service of the Lord. It highlights the significance of proper administration and the need to provide for all the necessary elements of worship in the temple. David’s instructions to Solomon laid the foundation for the successful construction and functioning of the temple, ensuring the continuity of Israel’s relationship with God through worship and service.
