1 Chronicles 29:24

Posted on 18 May at 11:32

And all the princes and the mightie men, and all the sonnes likewise of king Dauid, submitted themselues vnto Solomon the King. 1 Chronicles 29:24 (KJV)

The verse appears in 1 Kings 2:12, following David’s final address to Solomon. It is not placed directly after the description of the abundant offerings and contributions made by the people of Israel for the construction of the temple, which are recorded earlier in 1 Kings 5‑6. David, who had long desired to build the temple himself but was prevented by God, gathered the necessary resources and made extensive preparations for the project. Near the end of his life, David officially hands over the kingdom to his son Solomon.

Submission to Solomon: The passage highlights the response of several key groups to the newly anointed king. The “princes” refer to the tribal leaders and officials, while the “mighty men” denote the valiant warriors who served under David. The phrase “all the sons likewise of king David” indicates that even David’s own descendants recognized and submitted to Solomon’s authority. While many of David’s sons accepted Solomon, not all submitted willingly—Adonijah, for example, later attempted to seize the throne.

Significance of Submission: The act of submission in this verse carries several implications. First, it demonstrates the fulfillment of David’s desire for a smooth succession, ensuring stability and continuity in the kingdom. Second, it reflects the recognition of God’s appointment of Solomon as the rightful heir to the throne, as previously promised to David. The people’s collective submission signifies their acceptance of God’s chosen leader and their willingness to follow Solomon’s leadership, providing a foundation for the building of the temple and the future of Israel’s worship.
