1 Chronicles 11:47

Posted on 18 May at 11:30

“Eliel, and Obed, and Jasiel the Mesobaite.”

This verse is part of a list of David’s mighty men, who were renowned warriors and leaders in his army. These men were known for their bravery, loyalty, and dedication to the service of the king.

To understand the significance of this verse, it is important to consider the broader context of 1 Chronicles 11. This chapter focuses on the establishment of David’s reign as king over all Israel. It describes the mighty men who were instrumental in securing and expanding David’s kingdom.

In verse 47, three individuals are mentioned: Eliel, Obed, and Jasiel the Mesobaite. However, apart from their names, we don’t have any further information about them in this particular passage. The mention of their names indicates that they were part of the distinguished group of mighty men who supported David’s rule.

It is worth noting that the list of David’s mighty men is also recorded in 2 Samuel 23:8-39. There are slight differences in the names listed between the two accounts, but the purpose remains the same: to highlight the valor and faithfulness of these warriors.

While 1 Chronicles 11:47 may appear relatively brief and lacking in detail, it serves as a reminder that there were numerous individuals who played a crucial role in David’s success as a king. Each warrior contributed to the overall strength and stability of his kingdom.

From a broader perspective, this verse reminds us of the importance of teamwork, loyalty, and dedication in achieving great things. David’s mighty men exemplified these qualities and were recognized for their extraordinary acts of courage and service.

In conclusion, 1 Chronicles 11:47 is a part of a list of David’s mighty men, acknowledging the names of Eliel, Obed, and Jasiel the Mesobaite. While this verse may seem relatively straightforward, it underscores the significance of the warriors who supported David’s reign and highlights the qualities of loyalty, bravery, and dedication that contributed to the establishment of a strong and united kingdom.
