2 Chronicles 24:24

Posted on 18 May at 11:38

“For the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men, and the LORD delivered a very great host into their hand, because they had forsaken the LORD, God of their fathers; so they executed judgment against Joash.”

Historical Context:2 Chronicles 24 provides an account of the reign of Joash, the king of Judah. Joash began his reign at the age of seven and reigned for forty years in Jerusalem. He started off well by repairing the temple of the Lord, but later he turned away from God, leading to his downfall.

The Invasion of the Syrians:In this verse, we learn that the army of the Syrians came against Joash with a small company of men. Despite their smaller numbers, God allowed the Syrians to defeat Joash’s army, which consisted of a very great host. This happened because Joash and his people had forsaken the Lord, abandoning the God of their fathers.

Divine Judgment:The defeat of Joash and his army was a form of divine judgment. It was a consequence of their disobedience and abandonment of God. Throughout the Bible, we see examples of God’s judgment upon individuals and nations when they turn away from Him and reject His ways.
