2 Chronicles 26:4

Posted on 18 May at 11:38

“And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his father Amaziah did.”

This verse is part of a passage that describes the reign of Uzziah (also known as Azariah), who was the king of Judah. Uzziah became king at the age of sixteen and reigned for a total of fifty‑two years. During his reign, he accomplished many things and achieved both military and agricultural success.

Faithfulness in God’s sight:The verse begins by highlighting that Uzziah did what was right in the sight of the Lord. This indicates that Uzziah’s actions were aligned with God’s standards and expectations. It emphasizes the importance of living our lives in a way that pleases God and seeking to do what is right according to His commands.

Following the example of godly leaders:Uzziah is commended for following in the footsteps of his father, Amaziah, who also did what was right in the sight of the Lord. This highlights the significance of godly leadership and the influence it can have on future generations. Uzziah’s commitment to righteousness may have been influenced by the example set by his father, reminding us of the impact our actions can have on those around us.

The impact of obedience:Uzziah’s commitment to doing what was right resulted in blessings and success during his reign. In the subsequent verses, we read about Uzziah’s military victories and the expansion of his kingdom. This illustrates the principle found throughout the Bible that obedience to God’s commands often leads to favourable outcomes and blessings in various aspects of life.

The call to walk in righteousness:Uzziah’s faithfulness serves as an encouragement and challenge for believers today. It reminds us of the importance of striving to do what is right in God’s sight and following the example of those who have gone before us. We are called to walk in righteousness, seeking to align our lives with God’s will and purpose.

In conclusion, 2 Chronicles 26:4 highlights the faithfulness of Uzziah in doing what was right in the sight of the Lord. It encourages us to follow the example of godly leaders and emphasises the impact of obedience to God’s commands in our lives. May we be inspired by Uzziah’s commitment to righteousness and strive to walk in faithfulness before God.
