2 Chronicles 29:35

Posted on 18 May at 11:38

“And also the burnt offerings were in abundance, with the fat of the peace offerings, and the drink offerings for every burnt offering. So the service of the house of the LORD was set in order.”

Context:2 Chronicles is a book in the Old Testament that focuses on the history of the kings of Judah, particularly emphasising their relationship with God and the importance of worship in the temple. Chapter 29 recounts the reign of King Hezekiah and his efforts to restore the temple worship after a period of neglect and idolatry.

Significance of Burnt Offerings:The verse mentions “burnt offerings” which were an essential part of the Israelite sacrificial system. Burnt offerings were offered as a means of atonement and dedicating oneself wholly to God. The offering would be completely consumed by fire, symbolising the worshipper’s surrender to God.

The Abundance of Offerings:The verse states that the burnt offerings were in abundance, along with the fat of the peace offerings and drink offerings. This abundance reflects the people’s renewed commitment to worship and their desire to offer sacrifices to God. It also suggests the people’s gratitude and joy in being able to restore proper worship in the house of the Lord.

The Service of the House of the Lord:The verse concludes by stating that the service of the house of the Lord was set in order. This indicates that the temple worship, which had been neglected and disrupted, was now reestablished according to the proper procedures and regulations. King Hezekiah took great care to cleanse and consecrate the temple, and this verse highlights the successful restoration of worship in accordance with God’s commandments.
