Psalms Chapter 22

Summery

Psalm 22 is a deeply emotive and prophetic psalm attributed to King David. It begins with a heartrending cry of anguish, "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" This cry, later echoed by Jesus on the cross, reveals the psalm's messianic nature. Despite feeling abandoned, the psalmist affirms God's faithfulness and acknowledges His role as the Holy One who has been faithful to the Israelites throughout history.

As the psalm progresses, the focus shifts to the psalmist's suffering, with vivid descriptions of physical pain and emotional distress. The psalmist feels surrounded by enemies, mocked and scorned by those around him. Yet, in the midst of despair, there is a glimmer of hope as the psalmist recalls God's deliverance in the past.
