Psalms 22:28

Posted on 18 May at 14:12
Listen to this article

“For the kingdom is the LORD’S: and he is the governor among the nations.”

Context:Psalm 22 begins with the well-known cry of Jesus on the cross, “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” (Psalm 22:1). This psalm expresses the anguish and distress of the suffering servant, but it also speaks of ultimate triumph and deliverance. In the later verses, it transitions into a declaration of praise and victory.

The Kingdom belongs to the LORD: The verse begins by affirming that “the kingdom is the LORD’S.” It emphasizes that God is the ultimate ruler and authority over all kingdoms and nations. This echoes the truth declared in other passages of the Bible, such as Psalm 47:7‑8, which says, “For God is the King of all the earth… God reigneth over the heathen; God sitteth upon the throne of his holiness.”

God as the Governor among the nations: The verse further states, “and he is the governor among the nations.” This means that God not only possesses the kingdom but actively governs and rules over the nations. It highlights His sovereignty and His role as the ultimate authority over all the affairs of humanity. God’s governance extends to every corner of the world, and no nation is exempt from His rule.

Implications and Application:Psalm 22:28 reminds us of the supreme authority and dominion of God. As believers, it is crucial to recognize that our allegiance belongs to the Lord above all earthly powers and authorities. It encourages us to acknowledge God’s sovereignty in our lives, submitting to His governance and recognizing His rightful place as King. Furthermore, this verse carries a message of hope and comfort. Despite the suffering and turmoil we may encounter in this world, we can find solace in knowing that God is in control. Ultimately, His kingdom will prevail, and He will bring justice, righteousness, and restoration to the nations.
