2 Chronicles 30:2

Posted on 18 May at 11:38

“For the king had taken counsel, and his princes, and all the congregation in Jerusalem, to keep the passover in the second month.”

Historical Context:The book of 2 Chronicles is part of the Old Testament and provides a historical account of the kings of Judah. Chapter 30 specifically focuses on the reign of Hezekiah, who sought to restore true worship and unite the people of Judah.

King Hezekiah’s Plan:In this verse, we see King Hezekiah taking counsel with his officials and all the congregation in Jerusalem. He proposed the idea of keeping the Passover, a significant festival in the Jewish calendar, which commemorated the deliverance of Israel from Egypt.

Delayed Celebration:The Passover was typically observed in the first month, but during the time of Hezekiah, the people had not been able to celebrate it as prescribed. Hezekiah’s desire was to honour God’s commandments and restore the proper observance of the Passover.

Unity and Inclusivity:Hezekiah’s plan was to extend the invitation to the northern kingdom of Israel, which had been divided from Judah for many years. This act aimed at bringing unity among the people of Israel and encouraging them to worship the Lord together.

Spiritual Revival:Hezekiah’s decision to keep the Passover in the second month demonstrated his dedication to revitalising the spiritual life of the nation. It also reflected his desire to honour God and restore obedience to the Law.
