2 Chronicles 30:11

Posted on 18 May at 11:38

“Nevertheless, divers of Asher and Manasseh and of Zebulun humbled themselves, and came to Jerusalem.”

This verse is part of the account of King Hezekiah’s efforts to reinstate the Passover celebration in Judah and Israel. After ascending to the throne, Hezekiah sought to bring spiritual revival to the nation by reestablishing the worship of God according to the Law of Moses. He sent messengers throughout both the northern kingdom of Israel and the southern kingdom of Judah, inviting all the tribes to come to Jerusalem and participate in the Passover feast.

In this particular verse, we see a positive response from individuals of the tribes of Asher, Manasseh, and Zebulun. Despite these tribes being part of the northern kingdom of Israel, which had been largely influenced by idolatry and had strayed from God’s laws, there were individuals among them who responded to Hezekiah’s call and humbled themselves. They chose to put aside their previous practices and join in the worship of God in Jerusalem.

This verse demonstrates a significant spiritual awakening and willingness to reunite with their fellow Israelites in worshiping the one true God. It highlights the power of an invitation and the potential for people to turn back to God when given the opportunity. It also reveals that there were still faithful individuals within the northern kingdom, even though it was largely characterised by spiritual decline.

From this verse, we can draw a few key lessons:

God’s invitation is open to all:Hezekiah extended the invitation to people from all tribes, regardless of their background or past actions. Similarly, God’s grace is available to everyone, and no one is excluded from His offer of salvation and forgiveness.

Humility is essential for spiritual renewal:The individuals from Asher, Manasseh, and Zebulun humbled themselves, recognising their need for God and their desire to return to Him. True revival and renewal often begin with personal humility and a recognition of our own shortcomings.

Spiritual unity transcends divisions:Despite the political and geographical divisions between the northern and southern kingdoms, this verse shows that people were willing to set aside their differences and come together in worship. It reminds us that unity among believers is possible and can have a powerful impact on our communities and the world.

Overall, 2 Chronicles 30:11 teaches us about the potential for spiritual revival, the importance of extending invitations to others, the value of humility, and the transformative power of unity. It serves as a reminder that no matter how far we may have strayed, there is always an opportunity to return to God and experience His grace and restoration.
