2 Chronicles 32:27

Posted on 18 May at 11:39

“And Hezekiah had exceeding much riches and honour: and he made himself treasuries for silver, and for gold, and for precious stones, and for spices, and for shields, and for all manner of pleasant jewels; 2 Chronicles 32:27 (KJV)”

Historical Context: This verse is part of the account of King Hezekiah’s reign in Judah. Hezekiah was a righteous king who sought to restore true worship of God and lead his people in faithfulness. During his reign, the kingdom of Judah faced threats from the powerful Assyrian empire, particularly under the leadership of King Sennacherib.

  • God’s Blessings:

The verse highlights the abundant blessings that God bestowed upon Hezekiah. Hezekiah experienced great wealth and honour during his reign. The phrase “exceeding much riches and honour” emphasizes the extent of God’s blessings on the king. It is important to note that these blessings were a result of Hezekiah’s faithfulness to God and his efforts to restore the worship of the Lord in Judah.

The Use of Riches and Treasuries: Hezekiah wisely used the wealth and resources he received from God. He made treasuries to store silver, gold, precious stones, spices, shields, and various pleasant jewels. This indicates that Hezekiah recognised the value of these resources and sought to utilise them wisely and prudently. The treasures could have been used for various purposes, including the adornment of the temple, the construction of fortifications, or the provision of security for the kingdom.

Stewardship and Responsibility: Hezekiah’s actions demonstrate the importance of stewardship and responsibility in handling God’s blessings. He used the wealth and honour he received in a way that aligned with God’s purposes and the well-being of his kingdom. This example serves as a reminder for believers today to be faithful stewards of the blessings and resources God has entrusted to them, using them wisely for His glory and the good of others.

Spiritual Lessons:

  • While material blessings are not the sole measure of God’s favour or faithfulness, this passage reminds us that God is able to bless His people abundantly. Hezekiah’s story highlights the connection between faithfulness to God and His provision. It encourages believers to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, trusting that He will add the necessary blessings in our lives (Matthew 6:33).

In conclusion, 2 Chronicles 32:27 reflects the abundant blessings God bestowed upon Hezekiah due to his faithfulness. It emphasises the importance of stewardship and responsible use of God’s blessings. As we study this verse, may we strive to be faithful in all that we do, recognising that God blesses His people according to His purposes and for His glory.
