2 Chronicles 34:2

Posted on 18 May at 11:39

“And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the ways of David his father, and declined neither to the right hand, nor to the left.”

Certainly! Here is a Bible study on hronicles 34:2 (KJV) states: “And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the ways of David his father, and declined neither to the right hand, nor to the left.”

Historical Context:2 Chronicles 34 describes the reign of King Josiah of Judah. He became king at the young age of eight and reigned for 31 years (640-609 BC). During his reign, Josiah initiated religious reforms and brought about a revival of worship to the Lord.

Doing Right in the Sight of the Lord:The verse begins by stating that Josiah did what was right in the sight of the Lord. This implies that he followed God’s commands and sought to please Him. It highlights the importance of living a righteous life according to God’s standards, rather than following the ways of the world.

Walking in the Ways of David:Josiah is praised for walking in the ways of his ancestor David. David was known as a man after God’s own heart and a faithful king who sought to honor God in all he did. By following David’s example, Josiah demonstrated his commitment to God and his desire to lead his people in a godly manner.

Not Turning to the Right Hand or Left:The verse concludes by stating that Josiah did not turn aside to the right or left. This indicates his unwavering commitment to following God’s ways and not being swayed by the temptations or influences around him. Josiah remained focused on his devotion to God and did not deviate from the path of righteousness.

Lessons we can learn from 2 Chronicles 34:2:

  • a. Walking in God’s ways: Josiah’s example teaches us the importance of following God’s ways and seeking to please Him in all aspects of our lives. We should strive to live according to His principles and honor Him in our actions and decisions.
  • b. Learning from godly ancestors: Josiah’s decision to walk in the ways of David reminds us of the value of studying the lives of faithful individuals who have gone before us. By learning from their examples, we can grow in our own faith and walk with God.
  • c. Remaining steadfast in righteousness: Josiah’s commitment to not turning to the right hand or left reminds us of the importance of staying true to God’s Word and not being swayed by worldly influences. In a culture that often compromises moral values, we should stand firm in our faith and convictions.

In summary, 2 Chronicles 34:2 portrays King Josiah as a righteous and devoted king who followed the ways of the Lord, emulating his ancestor David. His unwavering commitment to God’s commands and refusal to deviate from the path of righteousness serves as an inspiration for us to live a life that pleases God and remains faithful to His teachings.
