Job 32:17

Posted on 18 May at 11:27

I sayd, I will answere also my part, I also will shew mine opinion. Job 32:17 (KJV)

The Book of Job is a profound exploration of human suffering and the sovereignty of God. Job, a righteous man, undergoes immense trials, losing his wealth, health, and family. Throughout the book, Job and his friends engage in a series of dialogues, attempting to understand the reason behind his suffering.

Elihu’s Introduction: In Job 32, a new character named Elihu enters the conversation. He is introduced as a younger man who had been listening to the debate between Job and his friends. Elihu, respectful of his elders, had remained silent until this point, allowing the older men to speak.

A Sense of Frustration: Elihu expresses frustration with Job’s friends because they were unable to provide satisfactory answers or refute Job’s claims. Elihu had hoped that wisdom and years would bring forth insight, but he found their arguments lacking.

The Resolution to Speak: Job 32:17 captures Elihu’s determination to share his opinion on the matter. Despite his youth, he believes he has something valuable to contribute to the discussion. He feels compelled to speak, recognizing that he, too, has a part to play in this dialogue. “I also will answer my part, and show you the wisdom of my mind.”

An Attitude of Humility: Elihu’s decision to speak does not come from a place of arrogance or self‑importance. He acknowledges his limited knowledge and experience compared to Job and his friends. Nevertheless, he believes he has a unique perspective to offer.

The Importance of Sharing Opinions: Elihu’s words in this verse highlight the significance of expressing one’s viewpoint. The book of Job emphasizes the importance of open and honest dialogue, where ideas can be exchanged and examined. It encourages us to engage in thoughtful discussions, truth and understanding.

Elihu’s Role in the Book of Job: Elihu’s speeches span from Job 32 to Job 37. He presents a fresh perspective, introducing new ideas that contribute to the overall theme of the book. While Elihu’s words may not be the final resolution to Job’s suffering, they provide additional insights that prepare the way for God’s ultimate response.
