Job Chapter 24

Summery

Job continues his lamentation, questioning why God allows wicked people to go unpunished while they oppress the poor and helpless. He observes the actions of evildoers who steal, commit adultery, and exploit the vulnerable under the cover of darkness. These individuals seize the opportunity to take advantage of widows and orphans, causing suffering and anguish to those who have no one to defend them. Job portrays the wicked as those who rebel against the light, preferring the secrecy of darkness to carry out their wicked deeds. He emphasizes their temporary prosperity, but acknowledges that their success is short-lived, for their lives will be cut short by divine judgment. Despite their wickedness, Job acknowledges that God is aware of their actions and will ultimately hold them accountable. He expresses his longing for justice, questioning why God allows such injustice to persist and why the wicked are not immediately punished.
