Job 24:4

Listen to this article

“They turn the needy out of the way: the poor of the earth hide themselves together.”

Job 24:4 (KJV):They turn the needy out of the way: the poor of the earth hide themselves together.

This verse is a part of Job’s lamentation, as he reflects on the wickedness and injustice prevalent in the world. Job is expressing his observations about the actions of certain individuals who mistreat the poor and needy.

“They turn the needy out of the way”: This phrase suggests that there are people who deliberately mislead or deceive the needy, leading them astray or causing them to deviate from the right path. In a broader sense, it implies that the powerful or wealthy exploit and manipulate the vulnerable, taking advantage of their disadvantaged position.

“The poor of the earth hide themselves together”: Here, Job highlights the response of the poor and needy to the mistreatment they endure. The oppressed seek refuge and protection by hiding together. It conveys a sense of fear and desperation, as those who lack resources or social standing are forced to withdraw and conceal themselves for safety and survival.

This verse serves as a lamentation and a critique of the injustice and inequality that Job perceives in the world. It reflects a concern for the marginalized and the mistreatment they face at the hands of the powerful.
