Job 34:11

For the work of a man shall he render unto him, and cause every man to find according to his ways.

Job 34:11 (KJV)

Elihu speaks these words to Job and his friends. Job has suffered greatly and has questioned why God allows such pain. Elihu answers that God is just and does not pervert justice. This verse is part of Elihu’s longer speech in Job 32-37, where he defends God’s fairness. Elihu insists that God’s rule is upright and that He will not act wrongly.

“For the work of a man shall he render unto him” means God repays each person according to what they have done. God sees every action and gives the proper reward or consequence. “And cause every man to find according to his ways” shows that no one escapes this judgment. Each person will meet the outcome of their own choices. God’s justice is impartial; He does not favor one person over another. This is a clear principle of individual accountability before God.

This principle appears elsewhere in Scripture. Romans 2:6 says God “will render to every man according to his deeds.” Proverbs 24:12 reminds us that God weighs the heart and knows our actions. These verses together teach that God’s judgment is based on the real condition of a person’s life, not on outward appearance. Elihu also says in Job 34:21 that God’s eyes are on every person’s ways, so His judgment is always fair. Because God sees all, His judgment is never mistaken.

This truth calls us to live with integrity. Since God sees everything, we cannot hide our motives or actions. We should not be hypocrites, pretending to be righteous while living otherwise. Instead, we can do good works with confidence, knowing that God will not forget them. This is not about earning salvation; it is about living in a way that honors God, who judges justly. The believer is called to persevere in good works, trusting that labor in the Lord is not in vain.

When human justice fails, God’s justice remains sure. We may not always see the reward or punishment in this life, but God will make all things right in the end. This should comfort us when we suffer unfairly and warn us when we are tempted to sin. Trust God’s wisdom and sovereignty, and let His justice lead you to humble obedience.
