Psalms 17:11

Posted on 18 May at 15:18
Listen to this article

“They have now compassed us in our steps: they have set their eyes bowing down to the earth.”

Psalm 17:11 (KJV):They have now compassed us in our steps: they have set their eyes bowing down to the earth.

Context:Psalm 17 is attributed to David, and it is a prayer for deliverance from enemies. In this particular verse, David describes the actions of his adversaries who have surrounded him.

Understanding the verse:

  • “They have now compassed us in our steps”:David expresses that his enemies have encircled him, closing in on his every move. This suggests a sense of being trapped or surrounded by those who seek to harm him.
  • “They have set their eyes bowing down to the earth”:The phrase “set their eyes bowing down to the earth” can be interpreted in a couple of ways. It may indicate that David’s enemies are humbly or submissively watching him, plotting against him while appearing harmless. Alternatively, it could imply a posture of intense focus or scrutiny, as if they are fixated on their evil intentions.

Remember, the Psalms are not only expressions of David’s personal experiences but also powerful expressions of worship, prayer, and reliance on God. As you study and meditate on Psalm 17:11, may it encourage you to seek God’s protection, trust in His faithfulness, and remain discerning in the face of adversity.
