Psalms 22:10

Posted on 18 May at 15:17
Listen to this article

“I was cast upon thee from the womb: thou art my God from my mother’s belly.”

1. Context of Psalm 22: Psalm 22 is a Messianic psalm written by King David. It is a psalm of lament and prophecy, describing the anguish and suffering of the psalmist, which is often interpreted as a foreshadowing of the sufferings of Jesus Christ on the cross. The psalm contains both expressions of distress and trust in God’s deliverance.

2. Dependence on God from birth: In verse 10, the psalmist declares that he was cast upon God from the womb. This phrase indicates a sense of complete dependence on God right from the beginning of his life. It emphasises the psalmist’s recognition that God has been intimately involved in his life from the earliest stages of his existence.

3. God’s sovereignty and care: By acknowledging God as his God from his mother’s belly, the psalmist affirms God’s sovereignty and care over him. This verse highlights the deep relationship between the psalmist and his Creator, recognising God’s involvement in his formation and existence even before birth.

4. Application to believers: Though this psalm was written by David, its themes and messages can be applied to believers today. It reminds us of God’s providence and involvement in our lives right from the beginning. From conception to birth and throughout our entire existence, God is intimately acquainted with us. He is not a distant God but a personal and caring Father who has a purpose and plan for our lives.

5. Reflection on God’s faithfulness: As we meditate on Psalm 22:10, it encourages us to reflect on God’s faithfulness and the assurance that He has always been with us. This verse reminds us of our need to depend on God and trust in His guidance and provision, knowing that He has been present in our lives from the very beginning.
