“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”

1. Context: Psalm 27 is attributed to King David and is classified as a psalm of confidence. In this psalm, David expresses his trust in the Lord and seeks His protection in the face of enemies and troubles. Verse 1 is a declaration of David’s unwavering faith in God’s power and deliverance.

David begins by proclaiming that the Lord is his light. Light symbolizes guidance, revelation, and illumination. By acknowledging God as his light, David affirms that the Lord provides direction, understanding, and spiritual enlightenment in his life. The presence of God’s light dispels darkness and brings clarity.

2. “The Lord is my light”: David begins by proclaiming that the Lord is his light. Light symbolizes guidance, revelation, and illumination. By acknowledging God as his light, David affirms that the Lord provides direction, understanding, and spiritual enlightenment in his life. The presence of God’s light dispels darkness and brings clarity.

3. “The Lord is my salvation”: David further declares that the Lord is his salvation. Salvation refers to deliverance, rescue, and redemption. By recognizing God as his salvation, David acknowledges that God is his source of deliverance from both physical and spiritual threats. The Lord is the One who saves him from enemies, sin, and eternal separation from God.

4. “Whom shall I fear?”: In this question, David expresses his confidence and trust in the Lord. By recognizing God as his light and salvation, David realizes that he has no reason to fear anyone or anything else. When we have a strong relationship with God and rely on His guidance and deliverance, fear loses its power over us. The assurance of God’s presence and protection enables us to face any challenge or opposition without fear.

5. “The Lord is the strength of my life”: David affirms that the Lord is the strength of his life. Here, strength refers to both physical and spiritual strength. David recognizes that his own strength is insufficient, but with God as his source of strength, he can overcome obstacles, endure trials, and achieve victory. By relying on God’s strength, we find the courage and resilience to face life’s challenges and persevere.

6. “Of whom shall I be afraid?”: In this rhetorical question, David reiterates his trust in God’s power and protection. He confidently asserts that because the Lord is with him, there is no one or nothing that can inspire fear within him. David’s faith and reliance on God’s presence and strength make him fearless in the face of adversity.
