In Zechariah 9, the prophet Zechariah receives a message from the Lord concerning several nations. The chapter begins with a prophecy against the cities of Hadrach, Damascus, and Hamath, foretelling their eventual downfall. The Lord then turns His attention to the city of Tyre, pronouncing judgment upon it for its pride and corruption. Tyre will be besieged and its wealth and influence will be brought low.
The focus of the prophecy then shifts to the people of Judah. The Lord promises to protect them and defend their land against their enemies. He will be their refuge and source of strength, and He will empower them to overcome their adversaries. The Lord will bring about their deliverance and establish His kingdom among them.
The chapter concludes with a Messianic prophecy, declaring the coming of the true King, the humble and righteous Savior who will bring peace and salvation to the world. He will proclaim freedom to the prisoners, restore hope to the afflicted, and establish His dominion from sea to sea.
