“This thou hast seen, O LORD: keep not silence: O Lord, be not far from me.”

Certainly! Here is a Bible study on Psalm 35:22 (KJV):

Psalm 35:22 (KJV) says, “This thou hast seen, O LORD: keep not silence: O Lord, be not far from me.”

Context: Psalm 35 is attributed to King David and is categorised as a lament psalm. In this particular psalm, David is pleading with God to deliver him from his enemies and to vindicate him against those who have wronged him.

Recognition of God’s Awareness: David begins this verse by acknowledging that God has seen everything. He affirms that the Lord is fully aware of the injustices done to him and the suffering he has endured. This recognition is significant because it shows David’s confidence that God is not indifferent to his situation.

A Plea for God’s Intervention: David implores God not to remain silent in the face of his enemies and his suffering. This plea reflects David’s desire for God to actively intervene on his behalf. He yearns for God’s involvement in his circumstances, seeking divine justice and protection.

Longing for God’s Presence: The phrase “O Lord, be not far from me” expresses David’s longing for God’s nearness and support. Despite feeling surrounded by enemies, David seeks the comforting presence of God in his life. He understands that only in God’s presence can he find true refuge and strength.

Application:

  • Trust in God’s Awareness: Like David, we can take solace in the fact that God sees and knows everything. In times of injustice or suffering, we can find comfort in the knowledge that God is fully aware of our circumstances. We can bring our concerns and grievances before Him, knowing that He hears and understands.
  • Seek God’s Intervention: Just as David called on God to intervene in his situation, we can turn to God for help in our times of need. We can bring our troubles, enemies, and challenges before Him, asking for His intervention and guidance. God is our ultimate defender and advocate.
  • Desire for God’s Presence: In our own trials, it is important to cultivate a longing for God’s presence. We can seek Him earnestly, knowing that He is near to those who call on Him. God’s presence provides comfort, strength, and assurance even in the midst of difficult circumstances.
