Psalms 73:24

Posted on 18 May at 15:15

“Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.”

Context: Psalm 73 is attributed to Asaph and is a psalm that explores the theme of the prosperity of the wicked and the struggles of the righteous. The psalmist expresses his initial doubts and questions regarding the apparent success of the wicked, but ultimately finds reassurance and comfort in God’s presence and guidance.

Divine Guidance: The verse begins with the psalmist acknowledging God’s guidance. The psalmist recognizes that it is God who guides him. This indicates a deep sense of reliance on God’s wisdom and counsel. As believers, we are not left to navigate life’s challenges on our own, but we have the privilege of seeking God’s guidance and wisdom in every aspect of our lives.

God’s Counsel: The psalmist emphasizes that God guides him with His counsel. This highlights the importance of seeking divine wisdom and direction rather than relying solely on human understanding. God’s counsel is perfect and trustworthy. It is found in His Word, the Bible, and through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. When we seek God’s counsel, we can make wiser decisions, avoid pitfalls, and align our lives with His purpose.

Assurance of Glory: The verse concludes with the psalmist’s confident hope in God’s ultimate plan. He expresses the assurance that God will receive him to glory. This points to the psalmist’s anticipation of eternal life in the presence of God. It highlights the truth that our earthly journey is not the end, but there is a glorious future awaiting all who trust in God. Through Jesus Christ, believers are promised the hope of eternal glory and fellowship with God.

Application: Psalm 73:24 encourages believers to seek God’s guidance and counsel in their lives. It reminds us that God’s wisdom surpasses our own, and He desires to lead us on the right path. We should actively engage with God through prayer, study His Word, and listen for His voice. As we seek His guidance, we can find comfort in the assurance that our ultimate destiny is in His hands and that He will lead us to eternal glory.
