Psalms 92:4

Posted on 18 May at 15:14

“For thou, LORD, hast made me glad through thy work: I will triumph in the works of thy hands.”

Context:The Book of Psalms is a collection of poetic and lyrical expressions of praise, thanksgiving, and lament written by various authors. Psalm 92 is attributed to the psalmist, and it is categorised as a psalm for the Sabbath day, intended for worship and reflection on God’s goodness and faithfulness.

Recognition of God’s work:The psalmist begins by acknowledging the Lord as the source of his gladness. The phrase “For thou, LORD, hast made me glad” expresses gratitude to God for the blessings and joy He has bestowed upon the psalmist. It highlights the psalmist’s awareness of God’s active involvement in his life.

Triumph in the works of God’s hands:The psalmist declares that he will “triumph in the works of thy hands.” This statement signifies the psalmist’s intention to boast and rejoice in the marvellous deeds of God. It reflects a deep appreciation for God’s creative power, providence, and divine intervention in the world.

Reflecting on God’s creation:The phrase “works of thy hands” alludes to God’s creation. It encompasses everything God has made, including the natural world, humanity, and His marvellous acts throughout history. The psalmist finds inspiration and reason to celebrate in observing and reflecting upon the beauty, intricacy, and order of God’s creation.

Application:This verse encourages believers to recognise God’s work in their lives and respond with gladness and triumph. It reminds us to cultivate a heart of gratitude for the blessings and joys that flow from the Lord’s hands. Moreover, it invites us to find inspiration and delight in observing and contemplating the wonders of God’s creation, acknowledging His sovereignty and power.
