Psalms 92:2

Posted on 18 May at 15:14

“To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night”

1. Context: The Book of Psalms is a collection of poetic songs and prayers often attributed to King David. This particular psalm is a song of praise and thanksgiving, intended to be sung on the Sabbath day.

The verse begins with an expression of gratitude and a desire to proclaim God’s lovingkindness. “To shew forth” means to declare or make known. It emphasizes the psalmist’s intention to publicly proclaim and testify to God’s lovingkindness or unfailing love.

The psalmist specifically mentions two times of the day: morning and night. Morning symbolizes the beginning of a new day, while night represents the end of the day. By mentioning both, the psalmist emphasizes the desire to acknowledge and give thanks for God’s lovingkindness throughout the entire day.

The psalmist also highlights God’s faithfulness, which is described as something to be proclaimed every night. God’s faithfulness refers to His reliability, trustworthiness, and steadfastness. It implies that God is always true to His promises and never fails to be there for His people.

This verse teaches us the importance of recognizing and expressing gratitude for God’s lovingkindness and faithfulness in our lives. It encourages us to make it a habit to start our days by acknowledging God’s love and to reflect on His faithfulness as we end each day. By doing so, we cultivate a heart of thanksgiving and deepen our trust in God’s steadfast character.

  • How can you personally show forth God’s lovingkindness in the morning?
  • How can you reflect on and testify to God’s faithfulness each night?
  • How can the regular practice of expressing gratitude for God’s love and faithfulness impact your relationship with Him?
