Psalms 94:4

Posted on 18 May at 15:14

“How long shall they utter and speak hard things? and all the workers of iniquity boast themselves?”

Context of the Psalm:Psalm 94 is classified as a psalm of lament, where the psalmist cries out to God for justice and deliverance. In this particular verse, the psalmist expresses concern over the wickedness and arrogance of evildoers.

Questioning the Duration of Injustice:The psalmist begins by asking, “How long shall they utter and speak hard things?” This question reflects the frustration and anguish felt by the psalmist due to the continued presence of those who speak wickedness and harsh words. It implies a desire for God to intervene and put an end to their actions.

Workers of Iniquity:The psalmist refers to the “workers of iniquity” who boast themselves. These are individuals who actively engage in sinful actions and take pride in their wrongdoing. They not only commit evil deeds but also boast about their accomplishments, displaying a lack of remorse or fear of consequences.

Observing the Wickedness in the World:The psalmist’s words highlight the psalmist’s awareness of the prevalence of wickedness and the apparent success of the wicked. This observation may have led to feelings of discouragement and a longing for divine justice to prevail.

Seeking God’s Intervention:Through this verse, the psalmist turns to God, expressing a desire for justice to be established and for evildoers to be held accountable for their actions. The psalmist understands that only God can ultimately bring about the resolution and judgment needed to address the situation.

Application:As we reflect on this verse today, it reminds us that injustice and wickedness still exist in the world. It’s easy to become discouraged or frustrated when we witness the ungodly prospering or when people speak harsh and wicked words. However, this verse teaches us the importance of turning to God in prayer, seeking His intervention and justice. We can trust that God sees all things and will ultimately bring about justice in His perfect timing.

  • Trusting in God’s Sovereignty:While the psalmist raises questions about the duration of injustice, it is important to remember that God is sovereign and in control. Even when it seems as though evil is prevailing, God’s purposes are ultimately accomplished. We can find comfort in knowing that God will bring about justice in His own time and in His own way.

In summary, Psalm 94:4 expresses the psalmist’s concern over the wickedness and boasting of evildoers. It serves as a reminder for us to turn to God in prayer, trusting in His sovereignty and justice.
