Psalms 102:5

By reason of the voice of my groaning my bones cleave to my skin.

Psalms 102:5 (KJV)

Psalm 102 is a heartfelt prayer of an afflicted person who pours out his complaint before the LORD. The writer is overwhelmed by suffering and distress, and he does not hide his pain. This verse sits within a larger lament, where the psalmist openly describes how his anguish has worn him down.

The psalmist says, “By reason of the voice of my groaning.” His pain is so deep that it escapes as audible groaning. This is not quiet sadness; it is a cry that cannot be held back. He then says, “my bones cleave to my skin.” This picture shows extreme weakness and wasting away. His suffering has affected his whole body, leaving him thin and exhausted. The image is vivid and honest about how much anguish can wear a person down.

Throughout Scripture, faithful people experience deep sorrow. Job, David, and others cried out to God in their pain. This verse reminds us that suffering is part of human life, even for those who trust God. The psalmist’s groaning is directed toward God, showing a relationship where he can bring his lament openly to the LORD.

Psalm 102:5 teaches us that it is right to express our pain to God. We do not need to hide our anguish or pretend to be strong. We can be honest with Him, knowing that He understands our struggles. In times of distress, we can pour out our hearts to Him, just as the psalmist did. This verse also encourages us to trust God even when our circumstances seem overwhelming. He is present with us in our suffering, and He has the power to bring healing and restoration.

When you feel worn down by trials, remember that God welcomes your honest cries. He does not turn away from your groaning. Instead, He invites you to bring your pain to Him, trusting that He hears and cares. Let this verse remind you that even in the deepest sorrow, you can look to God for comfort and hope.
