Psalms 119:25

Posted on 18 May at 15:13

“My soul cleaveth unto the dust: quicken thou me according to thy word.”

Context and Background:Psalms 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible and is known for its focus on God’s law, testimonies, and the psalmist’s love for God’s word. This particular verse is part of an acrostic poem where each section begins with a consecutive letter of the Hebrew alphabet.

The psalmist expresses a state of distress or lowliness. It suggests feeling downcast, humbled, or overwhelmed by difficulties. The imagery of cleaving to the dust signifies a deep sense of weakness or despair. The psalmist seeks revival, restoration, or renewal. The word "quicken" means to bring life or vitality. The psalmist desires to be refreshed and revived in their spirit. The psalmist recognizes that the source of true revival and renewal is found in God’s word. They look to God’s promises, instructions, and teachings for guidance, comfort, and restoration.
