Psalms 119:137

Posted on 18 May at 15:12

“Righteous art thou, O Lord, and upright are thy judgments.”

1. Context:Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Book of Psalms and is known for its focus on the greatness and authority of God’s Word, His law, and the psalmist’s love for it. This particular verse comes from the section titled “Tsadhe,” which is the eighteenth letter of the Hebrew alphabet.

The psalmist begins by acknowledging God’s righteousness. The word “righteous” refers to God’s moral perfection, His faithfulness to His promises, and His consistency in doing what is right. The psalmist recognizes that God alone is perfectly upright in all His ways.

The psalmist also acknowledges the upright judgments of God. God’s judgments refer to His decisions, rulings, and laws. They are based on His perfect wisdom and understanding. The psalmist affirms that God’s judgments are always just and fair. They are not influenced by human bias or error but are grounded in truth and righteousness.

This verse reminds us of God’s character and the reliability of His judgments. As believers, we can trust in God’s righteousness, knowing that He is just and fair in all His dealings. We can find comfort in the fact that His judgments are true and reliable, providing a firm foundation for our faith and guiding us in the right path.

As we reflect on this verse, it encourages us to align our lives with God’s righteous standards. We should seek to live in obedience to His Word and follow His judgments. It also reminds us of the importance of seeking God’s wisdom and discernment in our daily decisions, knowing that His judgments are always upright.
