“My soul hath kept thy testimonies; and I love them exceedingly.”

Certainly! Here’s a Bible study on Psalm 119:167 in the King James Version:

Psalm 119:167 (KJV) says, “My soul hath kept thy testimonies; and I love them exceedingly.”

Context: Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible, consisting of 176 verses. It is a beautiful psalm that celebrates the value, power, and beauty of God’s Word, often referred to as the Law, testimonies, precepts, statutes, commandments, or ordinances. This particular verse comes towards the end of the psalm.

Soul Keeping God’s Testimonies: The psalmist declares that his soul has kept God’s testimonies. “Testimonies” refer to God’s revealed truths and instructions found in His Word. The psalmist not only knows the testimonies but has diligently observed and obeyed them. This reveals a deep commitment to living according to God’s Word and His ways.

Love for God’s Testimonies: The psalmist goes on to express his love for God’s testimonies. His love for God’s Word is not mere duty or obligation, but it is an overwhelming love. The psalmist’s heart is captivated by God’s instructions, and he finds great delight, joy, and satisfaction in them.

Exceeding Love: The psalmist emphasizes the intensity of his love for God’s testimonies by saying, “and I love them exceedingly.” His love for God’s Word surpasses normal measures. It is a deep and passionate love that consumes his being. It is not a superficial or fleeting affection, but a love that is steadfast and unwavering.

Application for Believers: As believers, we can draw several lessons from this verse:

  • Commitment to God’s Word: We should strive to keep God’s testimonies in our hearts and minds, treasuring and observing them diligently.
  • Delight in God’s Word: Our love for God’s Word should not be forced or out of obligation but should flow from a heart of joy and delight.
  • Cultivate a Deep Love: We should seek to develop an exceeding love for God’s Word, going beyond a casual appreciation to a deep affection that shapes our lives.

Reflective Questions:

  • How do you keep God’s testimonies in your life? Are you committed to obeying His Word?
  • Do you genuinely love God’s Word? How can you cultivate a deeper love and delight in it?
  • How can you make God’s Word an integral part of your daily life, allowing it to shape your thoughts, decisions, and actions?
