Listen to this article

“My mouth shall speak the praise of the LORD: and let all flesh bless his holy name for ever and ever.”

Context:The book of Psalms is a collection of poetic and worshipful songs attributed to various authors, including King David. Psalm 145 is an acrostic psalm, meaning each verse begins with a consecutive letter of the Hebrew alphabet. It is a hymn of praise and thanksgiving to God for His greatness and faithfulness.

“My mouth shall speak the praise of the LORD”:The psalmist declares his intention to speak words of praise to the Lord. This phrase emphasizes the psalmist’s personal commitment and determination to exalt God’s name. It speaks of an active choice to use one’s words to honor and extol the Lord.

Application:As believers, we can learn from this verse to cultivate a lifestyle of praising God with our mouths. We are encouraged to use our words to express gratitude, acknowledge His attributes, and declare His goodness and faithfulness.

  • “Let all flesh bless his holy name forever and ever”:

This phrase extends the call to praise beyond the psalmist himself. It includes an invitation for all people, regardless of nationality or background, to join in blessing the holy name of the Lord. It emphasizes the eternal and universal nature of God’s praise.

Application:This verse reminds us that worship and praise are not confined to a specific group of people or a particular time. It is a call for all humanity to acknowledge and honor God’s holy name. As believers, we can actively encourage and invite others to join us in praising God, knowing that His name is worthy of eternal adoration.

  • Forever and ever:

The psalmist emphasizes the everlasting nature of praising God. This phrase signifies that God’s name deserves continuous praise throughout all generations, for all time. It underscores the enduring significance and unchanging character of God’s greatness and holiness.

Application:The phrase “forever and ever” prompts us to cultivate an attitude of worship and praise that transcends temporary circumstances. It encourages us to see beyond the challenges of the present and focus on the eternal nature of God’s goodness. No matter what we may face in life, we can trust that God’s name will always be deserving of our praise.
