Proverbs 7:19

Posted on 18 May at 15:10

“For the goodman is not at home, he is gone a long journey.”

Context:This verse is part of a larger passage in Proverbs 7 that depicts a scene involving a young man being enticed by an adulterous woman.

In this particular verse, the woman tries to allure the young man by suggesting that her husband is away on a long journey, implying that there would be no consequences for their actions.

Broader Context:To understand the deeper message of this verse, it is essential to consider the broader context of the book of Proverbs.

Proverbs is a book of wisdom, often attributed to King Solomon, and contains practical guidance for living a righteous and fruitful life.

It emphasizes the importance of seeking wisdom, making wise choices, and avoiding the enticements of sin.

Application:In Proverbs 7:19, the mention of the “goodman” (or the husband) being away on a long journey serves as a metaphorical representation of the absence of accountability or oversight.

The woman in the passage is attempting to exploit this absence to lead the young man astray.

This verse warns against the allure of temptation and the danger of succumbing to it when there is seemingly no immediate consequence or accountability.

Conclusion:From a broader perspective, this verse can be applied to various aspects of life.

It serves as a cautionary reminder to be vigilant and discerning, especially when faced with situations that may tempt us to compromise our values or engage in sinful behavior.
