Isaiah 37:5

Posted on 18 May at 15:06

“So the servants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah.”

Historical Context:The book of Isaiah was written by the prophet Isaiah during the reigns of multiple kings of Judah. In this particular passage, the Assyrian army, led by King Sennacherib, had invaded Judah and threatened to conquer Jerusalem. King Hezekiah sought the guidance and counsel of the prophet Isaiah in this dire situation.

King Hezekiah’s Dilemma:Hezekiah was a godly king who trusted in the Lord. When the Assyrians surrounded Jerusalem, he turned to God for help. Hezekiah understood the importance of seeking God’s counsel and wisdom in times of trouble. He sent his servants to Isaiah, the prophet, seeking his guidance and assistance.

Seeking Godly Counsel:King Hezekiah’s actions in seeking Isaiah’s counsel teach us the value of seeking godly wisdom and counsel in challenging situations. Rather than relying on his own understanding or worldly advice, Hezekiah chose to seek the guidance of a prophet who had a close relationship with God.

Isaiah as a Prophet:Isaiah was a significant prophet in the Old Testament, and his prophecies often involved messages of warning, judgment, and hope. Isaiah was known for his unwavering commitment to God and his ability to convey God’s messages accurately. Hezekiah recognized Isaiah’s authority and relied on him as a conduit for God’s guidance.

Trusting in God’s Guidance:Hezekiah’s actions demonstrate a deep trust in God. He recognized that the situation was beyond his control and understood that true help could only come from God. By seeking Isaiah’s counsel, he displayed his faith and reliance on God’s direction.

Application:As believers, we can learn from Hezekiah’s example. When we face challenging circumstances or difficult decisions, it is essential to seek God’s guidance through prayer, His Word, and wise, godly counsel. Surrounding ourselves with people who have a strong relationship with God and seeking their wisdom can help us navigate through difficult situations.

  • God’s Faithfulness:Throughout the Bible, we see God’s faithfulness to those who trust in Him. In the case of Hezekiah, God ultimately delivered Judah from the Assyrian threat. After Hezekiah sought God’s help, Isaiah delivered a message from God, assuring him of the Lord’s intervention and the defeat of the Assyrian army (Isaiah 37:6-7).

In conclusion, Isaiah 37:5 reminds us of the importance of seeking God’s guidance in challenging situations and the value of godly counsel. By following Hezekiah’s example and seeking wisdom from those who have a close relationship with God, we can experience God’s faithfulness and direction in our lives.
