“The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying,”

Context: Jeremiah 18:1 marks the beginning of a prophetic message received by the prophet Jeremiah from the Lord. Jeremiah was an Old Testament prophet who lived during the final days of the Kingdom of Judah before its destruction and the exile of its people to Babylon.

This verse sets the stage for the message that follows. Jeremiah, as a prophet, was called by God to be a spokesperson for Him and deliver His word to the people of Judah. Throughout the book of Jeremiah, the prophet receives various messages, visions, and prophecies that he faithfully communicates to the people.

By stating that the word came to Jeremiah from the Lord, the verse emphasizes the divine origin and authority of the message. It highlights the fact that Jeremiah was not speaking on his own authority but was delivering a message directly from God.

This verse also emphasizes the importance of God’s Word in the life of a prophet and in the life of believers in general. It reminds us that God communicates with His people and desires to reveal His will and purposes to them. The fact that God spoke to Jeremiah demonstrates His ongoing involvement and interest in the affairs of humanity.

Furthermore, this verse sets the tone for the entire book of Jeremiah, which contains a strong message of judgment and restoration. God uses Jeremiah as a vessel to warn the people of Judah about the consequences of their disobedience and idolatry. At the same time, the book also offers hope and promises of restoration if the people repent and turn back to God.
