Lamentations 3:64

Render vnto them a recompense, O Lord, according to the worke of their hands. Lamentations 3:64 (KJV)

The book of Lamentations in the Bible has five chapters. Chapter three of that book contains sixty‑six verses, and verse sixty‑four is included among them in the King James Version. This placement confirms that the wording “Render unto them a recompence, O LORD, according to the work of their hands” is found in Lamentations chapter three, verse sixty‑four.

Some readers have noted that a similar idea appears elsewhere in Scripture. In the King James Version the exact phrasing does not occur verbatim in the Psalms, but a comparable sentiment is expressed in Psalm twenty‑eight verse four and in Psalm one hundred and twelve verse six in other translations. Those observations have led to occasional confusion about the precise biblical source of the line.

The acknowledgment of the verse’s location in Lamentations does not negate the existence of parallel language in the Psalter. Rather, it highlights that the theme of divine recompense according to one’s deeds is a recurring biblical motif. The verse in Lamentations stands as a clear example of that motif within the context of the third chapter’s poetic lament.

Thus, while the wording may echo passages such as Psalm twenty‑eight verse four or Psalm one hundred and twelve verse six, the authoritative text of Lamentations chapter three, verse sixty‑four, contains the line as quoted above. The verse’s presence in Lamentations is affirmed by the chapter’s verse count and by the standard KJV rendering, even as scholars and readers continue to recognize its thematic resonance throughout the Psalms.
