Ezekiel 11:13

And it came to passe, when I prophecied, that Pelatiah the sonne of Benaiah died: then fell I downe vpon my face, and cried with a loud voice, and said; Ah Lord God, wilt thou make a full end of the remnant of Israel? Ezekiel 11:13 (KJV)

This verse is part of a larger passage in the book of Ezekiel where the prophet receives a vision and a message from God concerning the exiled Israelites in Babylon. The book of Ezekiel contains numerous prophecies and visions that God revealed to Ezekiel to communicate His message to the people. In this particular verse, Ezekiel describes an event that occurred during his prophesying. As he was delivering God’s message, a man named Pelatiah, the son of Benaiah, died. The exact reason for his death is not mentioned, but the event moved Ezekiel to fall on his face and cry out to the Lord. Ezekiel’s response reflects his deep compassion for the remnant of Israel, those who were exiled in Babylon and remained faithful to God, and he questions whether God would make a complete end of the remnant. It is essential to understand the historical context: the Israelites had been unfaithful, engaging in idolatry and wickedness, which led to their exile. Yet even amid judgment, God preserved a faithful remnant that He intended to keep. The subsequent verses in Ezekiel 11 record God’s reassuring response, declaring that He will be a sanctuary for the scattered Israelites and will gather them back to their land, restoring a right relationship with Him. This passage highlights Ezekiel’s intercession on behalf of his people and his plea that God spare them from total destruction. It serves as a reminder of God’s steadfast faithfulness, promising to gather and restore His people in His appointed time.
