Ezekiel 13:21

Posted on 18 May at 13:56

Your kerchiefes also will I teare, and deliuer my people out of your hand, and they shalbe no more in your hand to be hunted, and yee shall know that I am the Lord. Ezekiel 13:21 (KJV)

Ezekiel 13 delivers a prophetic warning to the false prophets and prophetesses who had been deceiving Israel. These leaders claimed divine revelation while practicing lies and divination, leading the people away from the true worship of God. Through the voice of Ezekiel, the Lord exposes their deceitful practices and announces imminent judgment against them.

In this verse the Lord declares, “I will also tear your caulks from your arms, and will deliver my people out of your hand, and they shall be no more in your hand to be hunted; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.” The tearing of the caulks—objects used by the false prophetesses to create a mystical atmosphere—symbolizes the removal of their deceptive power. By stripping away these symbols, God publicly exposes the falseness of their claims. He also promises to rescue His people from the grasp of these impostors, ending the predators’ ability to hunt and exploit the vulnerable. The ultimate purpose of this deliverance is that the people will recognize the Lord’s supreme authority and understand that the false prophets are powerless before Him.

The passage teaches several clear lessons. First, believers must be vigilant against false prophets who claim to speak for God while spreading lies. Discernment is essential, and every teaching should be measured against Scripture. Second, even amid pervasive deception, God remains faithful to His people, ready to intervene and free them from spiritual bondage. Finally, the downfall of the false teachers serves as a powerful testimony to God’s unrivaled authority; no human deception can stand against His truth.

Practical application follows naturally. A solid foundation in the Bible is indispensable—regular study and meditation allow the Holy Spirit to illuminate truth and guard against error. When confusion arises or conflicting messages appear, believers should seek God’s guidance through earnest prayer, asking for wisdom and discernment. Evaluating any prophetic claim or teaching against the whole counsel of Scripture helps test the spirits; inconsistency with God’s character or the biblical message signals deception. By rooting themselves in God’s Word and relying on His guidance, believers can navigate the complexities of false teachings and remain firmly grounded in the truth of the Lord.
