Listen to this article

“In that day will I cause the horn of the house of Israel to bud forth, and I will give thee the opening of the mouth in the midst of them; and they shall know that I am the Lord.”

Context:This verse is part of a larger prophecy delivered by the prophet Ezekiel against Egypt. In this particular verse, God declares His intention to bring about a significant change in the fortunes of the house of Israel.

“In that day”:This phrase is a common prophetic expression used throughout the Bible to refer to a future time of divine intervention and fulfillment of God’s promises. It signifies a specific time in the future when God’s plans and purposes will be realised.

“Will I cause the horn of the house of Israel to bud forth”:The “horn” symbolises power, strength, and authority. In biblical times, an animal’s horn represented its ability to defend itself or exert dominance. The “house of Israel” refers to the nation of Israel, the descendants of the twelve tribes. Here, God is proclaiming that He will cause the power and influence of Israel to flourish and grow.

“And I will give thee the opening of the mouth in the midst of them”:This phrase is often understood as a metaphorical reference to speaking or declaring God’s words. In this context, it signifies that God will grant authority and a platform for the house of Israel to proclaim His message among the nations.

“And they shall know that I am the Lord”:Throughout the book of Ezekiel, this statement is repeated numerous times. It emphasises God’s desire for all people, including Israel, to recognise His sovereignty and acknowledge His supremacy over all creation. God wants to make His presence and power known so that people will have a true understanding of who He is.

This verse reveals God’s plan to revive and empower the house of Israel, allowing them to proclaim His message in the midst of other nations. It speaks of a future time when God will demonstrate His authority and make Himself known. Ultimately, this prophecy points to the restoration and spiritual awakening of Israel, highlighting God’s faithfulness and His desire to reveal Himself to all people.
