Listen to this article

I haue therefore deliuered him into the hand of the mightie one of the heathen: hee shall surely deale with him, I haue driuen him out for his wickednesse. Ezekiel 31:11 (KJV)

Context: This verse is part of a larger passage in the book of Ezekiel where the prophet delivers a message from God concerning the downfall of Egypt and its Pharaoh. To understand the context of this verse, it is important to look at the surrounding verses. In this particular verse, God declares that He has delivered Pharaoh and Egypt into the hands of a powerful foreign nation, referred to as the “mighty one of the heathen.” This nation will deal with Pharaoh according to his wickedness. Ezekiel 31 uses the imagery of a great cedar tree to describe Egypt and its Pharaoh, symbolizing their power and influence. In Ezekiel 31, God uses the imagery of a great cedar tree to describe the might and glory of Egypt and its Pharaoh. This tree symbolizes the nation’s power, influence, and pride. However, due to their arrogance and wickedness, God pronounces judgment upon them, leading to their downfall at the hands of a foreign power. The phrase “he shall surely deal with him” implies that God’s judgment will be executed upon Pharaoh. It suggests that the foreign nation will carry out God’s divine plan, becoming the instrument of His judgment upon Egypt. The phrase “I have driven him out for his wickedness” highlights that Pharaoh’s wickedness and pride were the reasons behind God’s decision to allow the foreign power to conquer and remove him from power. This verse serves as a reminder of God’s sovereignty and His role as the ultimate judge. It demonstrates that God holds nations accountable for their actions and that He will execute justice according to His righteous standards.
