Ezekiel 35:2

Posted on 18 May at 14:58
Listen to this article

“Son of man, set thy face against mount Seir, and prophesy against it.”

Context:The book of Ezekiel is a prophetic book in the Old Testament. The prophet Ezekiel was called by God to deliver messages to the exiled Israelites in Babylon. In this particular passage, Ezekiel is instructed to prophesy against Mount Seir.

Mount Seir:Mount Seir was a mountainous region southeast of the Dead Sea, inhabited by the Edomites. The Edomites were the descendants of Esau, the brother of Jacob (Israel). The Edomites had been hostile towards the Israelites throughout history, and they often took advantage of Israel’s misfortunes.

Symbolic Meaning:In this passage, God instructs Ezekiel to set his face against Mount Seir and prophesy against it. Symbolically, Mount Seir represents the enemies of God’s people. The prophetic message against Mount Seir is a warning and a declaration of judgment upon those who have opposed God’s chosen people.

Spiritual Application:While this passage specifically addresses the Edomites and their hostility towards Israel, it holds broader spiritual implications for believers today. It reminds us that God is aware of those who oppose His people and seek to harm them. It also serves as a reminder that God will hold the enemies of His people accountable for their actions.

  • Prophetic Ministry:Ezekiel’s role as a prophet was to deliver God’s messages to the people, both encouraging and corrective in nature. As believers, we can draw inspiration from this passage to stand firm against opposition, to speak out against injustice, and to deliver God’s truth in love.
  • Prayer and Intercession:This passage also reminds us of the importance of prayer and intercession for God’s people. We can pray for protection, deliverance, and justice for those who face opposition and persecution. We can seek God’s guidance and discernment to prophesy His truth into the lives of others.
