Listen to this article

“So I prophesied as I was commanded: and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold a shaking, and the bones came together, bone to his bone.”

Context:To better understand this verse, it is important to know the context in which it appears. In Ezekiel 37, the prophet Ezekiel is given a vision by God in the Valley of Dry Bones. The vision depicts a valley filled with dry, scattered bones, symbolizing the hopelessness and spiritual deadness of the people of Israel in exile.

Obedience to God’s command:In verse 7, Ezekiel responds to God’s command by prophesying to the dry bones. This act of obedience is significant as it demonstrates Ezekiel’s faithfulness to God and his willingness to fulfill the task assigned to him. It teaches us the importance of obeying God’s instructions even when they seem impossible or beyond our understanding.

The noise and shaking:As Ezekiel prophesies, a noise and shaking occur. This signifies a divine intervention and a manifestation of God’s power. The noise and shaking emphasize the supernatural aspect of the vision, highlighting that the restoration of the dead and lifeless situation can only come through the mighty work of God.

Bones coming together:As Ezekiel prophesies, the scattered bones in the valley begin to come together, bone to bone. This imagery represents the restoration and reassembly of the disintegrated and lifeless Israelite nation. It symbolizes the reunification and revival of God’s people, bringing hope and new life to a situation that seemed utterly hopeless.

Spiritual significance:The vision of the Valley of Dry Bones in Ezekiel 37 is a powerful metaphor for the spiritual condition of God’s people. It illustrates how even when we find ourselves in a state of spiritual death, God has the power to breathe new life into us. It reminds us that no situation is beyond God’s ability to restore and revive.

Application:As believers, we can draw several lessons from Ezekiel 37:7. Firstly, it teaches us the importance of being obedient to God’s commands, even when they may appear unconventional or difficult. Secondly, it reminds us of the power and sovereignty of God. No matter how dead and lifeless a situation may seem, God has the ability to bring restoration and renewal. Lastly, it encourages us to have hope in God’s promises, trusting that He can transform any hopeless situation into one filled with life and purpose.

  • Summary:Ezekiel 37:7 showcases Ezekiel’s obedience to God’s command, the supernatural intervention of God, and the restoration of the dry bones in the valley.
