Ezekiel 37:10

Listen to this article

“So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army.”

Ezekiel 37:10 is part of a larger passage known as the vision of the valley of dry bones. In this vision, the prophet Ezekiel is carried by the Spirit of the Lord to a valley filled with dry bones. These bones represent the house of Israel, who were in a state of hopelessness and despair, spiritually and physically dead.

Let’s break down the verse and explore its significance:

"So I prophesied as he commanded me":Ezekiel, in obedience to the Lord’s command, speaks the words of prophecy over the dry bones. This shows the prophet’s faithfulness and willingness to be a vessel for God’s message.

"And the breath came into them, and they lived":As Ezekiel prophesies, God breathes life into the bones, symbolizing the restoration of Israel’s spiritual and physical vitality. This demonstrates God’s power to bring life out of death and renew hope.

"And stood up upon their feet":The bones, now infused with life, come together and form complete bodies. They stand up on their feet, signifying a resurrection from their hopeless state. This imagery illustrates God’s ability to raise His people up and restore them.

"An exceeding great army":The reanimated bones, once lifeless and scattered, now form a mighty army. This points to the restoration of Israel as a unified and powerful nation, spiritually revived and ready to fulfill God’s purposes.

The broader context of Ezekiel 37 reveals that this vision symbolizes the restoration of Israel from a state of exile and spiritual desolation. It emphasizes God’s power to bring life, hope, and strength to His people, even in the most desperate circumstances. It serves as a reminder that no situation is beyond God’s ability to restore and revive.

Furthermore, from a spiritual perspective, Ezekiel 37:10 can also be seen as a metaphor for God’s redemptive work in the lives of individuals. It highlights God’s ability to breathe life into spiritually dead hearts, transforming them into a mighty army for His kingdom.

Overall, Ezekiel 37:10 offers a powerful message of hope, restoration, and revival. It encourages believers to trust in God’s power to bring life to the lifeless, to resurrect what seems dead, and to empower His people to fulfill His purposes.
