Ezekiel 38:21

Listen to this article

“And I will call for a sword against him throughout all my mountains, saith the Lord God: every man’s sword shall be against his brother.”

In this verse, the prophet Ezekiel is conveying a message from the Lord God regarding a future event or judgment. To better understand its meaning, it is helpful to examine the broader context of the passage.

Ezekiel 38 and 39 are often referred to as the prophecy of Gog and Magog. These chapters describe a future invasion of Israel by a coalition of nations led by a character named Gog. The prophecy foretells a time when God will intervene to protect His people and bring about His judgment on these invading forces.

Now, let’s focus on Ezekiel 38:21 specifically. The verse states that God will call for a sword against Gog throughout all His mountains. This imagery of the sword signifies a weapon of war, emphasizing the judgment and destruction that will come upon Gog and his allies.

The latter part of the verse says, “every man’s sword shall be against his brother.” This phrase suggests that the invading armies will turn against each other and engage in infighting. It portrays a scene of chaos and confusion within the enemy forces, where they become divided and fight amongst themselves. This internal strife would contribute to their downfall and defeat.

The message conveyed through this verse is that God, in His sovereign power, will orchestrate events that will lead to the disarray and downfall of those who come against His people. It demonstrates God’s ability to bring judgment upon the enemies of Israel and protect His chosen nation.

It is important to note that interpretations of specific prophecies can vary among theologians and scholars. Different perspectives exist regarding the timing and fulfilment of the prophecy of Gog and Magog. Some believe it has a future fulfilment, while others see it as having historical or symbolic significance.

Overall, Ezekiel 38:21 underscores the sovereignty and power of God, assuring His people that He will ultimately bring about justice and protect them from their adversaries.
