Ezekiel 38:22

Posted on 18 May at 14:58

“And I will plead against him with pestilence and with blood; and I will rain upon him, and upon his bands, and upon the many people that are with him, an overflowing rain, and great hailstones, fire, and brimstone.”

In this verse, God is speaking through the prophet Ezekiel and declaring how He will intervene in the conflict between Gog and his allies against Israel. Let’s break down the key elements:

Pleading with pestilence and blood:This phrase suggests that God will bring judgment upon Gog and his allies. "Pestilence" refers to a deadly and widespread disease or plague. "Blood" may signify violence and carnage that will come upon the invading forces.

Overflowing rain and hailstones:This part describes a metaphorical downpour of God’s wrath. The overflowing rain and hailstones symbolize a devastating storm of judgment that will fall upon Gog and his armies. It signifies a powerful and destructive force.

Fire and brimstone:These elements are often associated with divine judgment in the Bible. Fire and brimstone represent God’s wrath and punishment. This imagery suggests that Gog and his allies will face a catastrophic end due to their hostility towards Israel.

Overall, Ezekiel 38:22 portrays God’s intervention and judgment upon the enemies of Israel. It emphasises the overwhelming and decisive nature of God’s response, utilising various symbols of destruction. This passage serves as a reminder of God’s sovereignty and His role in defending His people.

It is important to note that the interpretation of the prophecy of Gog and Magog is a subject of debate among biblical scholars. Different interpretations exist regarding the specific nations involved and the timing of these events. Therefore, it is advisable to consult various commentaries and interpretations for a more comprehensive understanding.
