Daniel 7:8

Posted on 18 May at 14:57

“I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things.”

Context:The book of Daniel is a prophetic book in the Old Testament. Chapter 7 contains a vision given to Daniel, where he sees four great beasts emerging from the sea, representing four powerful kingdoms that would arise in the future. In verse 8, Daniel focuses his attention on one particular horn that arises among the ten horns of the fourth beast.

The Little Horn: In the vision, Daniel sees another little horn emerging among the ten horns of the fourth beast. This little horn is distinct from the others and stands out because of its actions and characteristics. It is important to note that in biblical symbolism, a horn often represents power or authority.

Overthrow of Three Horns: The little horn is described as plucking up three of the first horns by the roots. This action indicates the subjugation or overthrow of three kingdoms or rulers by the little horn. The specific identities of these kingdoms or rulers are not mentioned in this verse.

Eyes and Mouth: The little horn is said to have eyes like the eyes of a man and a mouth speaking great things. This imagery suggests that the little horn possesses intelligence and the ability to speak with authority or make great boasts. The eyes symbolize knowledge or insight, while the mouth represents speech and communication.

Interpretation: The vision recorded in Daniel 7 is highly symbolic, and its interpretation is given in the subsequent verses (Daniel 7:15-28). According to the interpretation, the four beasts represent four kingdoms that would rise to power on the earth. The fourth beast, in particular, is described as a kingdom that would be different from all the others and would oppress God’s people.

The little horn represents a specific ruler or power that would arise within the fourth kingdom and persecute the people of God. This little horn is often associated with the Antichrist or a figure of great opposition to God’s purposes. The eyes and mouth of the little horn indicate its intelligence, influence, and ability to deceive people through persuasive speech.
