Daniel 8:19

“And he said, Behold, I will make thee know what shall be in the last end of the indignation: for at the time appointed the end shall be.”

Context:The Book of Daniel contains prophecies and visions given to the prophet Daniel during the Babylonian captivity. In Daniel 8, Daniel receives a vision concerning the Medo-Persian and Greek empires and the future events that will impact God’s people.

Verse:“And he said, Behold, I will make thee know what shall be in the last end of the indignation: for at the time appointed the end shall be.” (Daniel 8:19, KJV)

Explanation:– “Behold, I will make thee know”: The angel Gabriel is speaking to Daniel, assuring him that he will receive understanding and insight into the vision.

– “what shall be in the last end of the indignation”: This refers to the time period when God’s indignation or anger against His people will come to an end. It points to the future events that will culminate in the ultimate resolution of God’s judgment and restoration of His people.

– “for at the time appointed the end shall be”: God has set a specific time for the fulfillment of these prophecies. The end of the appointed time will mark the culmination of the events revealed in the vision.

Interpretation:– The vision in Daniel 8 primarily concerns the empires of Medo-Persia and Greece, represented by a ram and a male goat respectively (Daniel 8:3-8).

– The vision also includes a little horn that rises from the Greek empire and persecutes God’s people (Daniel 8:9-14).

– While this vision had an immediate historical fulfillment during the time of Daniel, many scholars believe it also has future eschatological implications.

– The “last end of the indignation” could refer to the time leading up to the end of the world when God’s judgment against evil and sin will be fully executed.

– The phrase “at the time appointed” suggests that God has a precise plan and timetable for the unfolding of these events. It highlights God’s sovereignty and His control over history.

Application:

  • Trust in God’s appointed timing:Just as God had a specific time for the fulfillment of the events in Daniel’s vision, we can trust that God’s plans for our lives and the world are unfolding according to His perfect timing. Patience and faith are essential as we await the fulfillment of God’s promises.
  • Seek understanding from God:Like Daniel, we should seek understanding from God regarding His plans and purposes. We can pray for wisdom and insight, study His Word, and seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit to comprehend His will for our lives.
  • Take comfort in God’s ultimate victory:The vision in Daniel 8 reminds us that even in the face of evil and persecution, God’s ultimate victory is assured. The little horn may rise and cause suffering, but God’s indignation will come to an end, and His righteous rule will prevail.

Remember, while this interpretation provides a general understanding of Daniel 8:19, different biblical scholars may offer alternative viewpoints. It’s always beneficial to study the Bible in context and seek guidance from trusted teachers and commentaries.
