“Now as he was speaking with me, I was in a deep sleep on my face toward the ground: but he touched me, and set me upright.”

Certainly! Here’s a Bible study on

Verse: “Now as he was speaking with me, I was in a deep sleep on my face toward the ground: but he touched me, and set me upright.” (Daniel 8:18, KJV)

Context:

The book of Daniel is divided into two main sections: the historical narratives (chapters 1-6) and the prophetic visions (chapters 7-12). Daniel 8 is part of the vision that Daniel received in the third year of King Belshazzar’s reign. It focuses on the vision of a ram and a goat, which symbolize the empires of Medo-Persia and Greece, respectively.

The State of Daniel:

In this verse, Daniel describes his state as being in a deep sleep on his face toward the ground. The vision was overwhelming and had a profound effect on him, causing him to fall into a state of unconsciousness or a deep sleep.

Divine Intervention:

While Daniel was in this state, an angel touched him and set him upright. This divine intervention is significant as it shows that God’s messengers are always present to help and guide His servants. The angel’s touch revived and strengthened Daniel, enabling him to receive and understand the vision that was about to be revealed to him.

Symbolism:

The act of being set upright by the angel can be seen as symbolic of restoration, both physically and spiritually. It signifies God’s ability to lift us up when we are down, to revive us when we are weak, and to enable us to stand firm in our faith.

Application:

As believers, we may encounter situations in life where we feel overwhelmed, weak, or spiritually exhausted. Daniel’s experience serves as a reminder that in those moments, we can find strength and restoration through divine intervention. We can seek God’s presence, rely on His messengers (such as the Holy Spirit), and trust in His power to lift us up and set us on the right path.

  • Prayer and Surrender:Daniel’s deep sleep may also symbolize his complete surrender to God. His posture of being face down suggests humility and submission. Similarly, when we are faced with challenges or uncertain situations, we can follow Daniel’s example by humbling ourselves before God, surrendering our fears, and seeking His guidance through prayer.

In conclusion, Daniel 8:18 showcases the divine intervention and restoration that Daniel experienced during his encounter with the angel. It reminds us of God’s ability to revive and strengthen us in times of spiritual or physical weakness. Furthermore, it encourages us to approach God with humility, surrender, and prayer, knowing that He is ready to lift us up and guide us through difficult circumstances.
