Daniel 10:19
And said; O man greatly beloued, feare not: peace be vnto thee, be strong, yea be strong; and when he had spoken vnto me, I was strengthened, and said; Let my Lord speake; for thou hast strengthened me. Daniel 10:19 (KJV)
Context: The book of Daniel records visions and revelations given to the prophet Daniel during the Babylonian captivity. In this passage Daniel recounts an encounter with an angelic being that appeared after a period of dedicated prayer and fasting.
Importance of Prayer and Fasting: Before receiving this vision Daniel had mourned and fasted for three weeks (Daniel 10:2‑3). This teaches the significance of seeking God through earnest prayer and fasting, demonstrating Daniel’s dedication to obtaining divine guidance and understanding.
The Angelic Encounter: The vision left Daniel weak and trembling (Daniel 10:8‑9). The angel touched him and spoke words of comfort, assuring him not to fear. In the KJV the angel’s words are recorded as “Fear not, Daniel” (10:12); the longer quotation in the verse block is not found in the KJV. The encounter underscores God’s care for His servants and His desire to strengthen and encourage them in distress.
Beloved and Strengthened: Although the phrase “O man greatly beloved” is not in the KJV text, the angel’s address reveals the special favor God showed Daniel. The repeated encouragement “be strong, yea, be strong” calls believers to remain steadfast and resolute amid trials.
Spiritual Strengthening: After the angel spoke, Daniel was strengthened, not merely by the words but also by the divine touch he received. This highlights the power of God’s presence to equip His people for the tasks He assigns.
Humility and Submission: Daniel’s response—acknowledging the angel’s authority and inviting further speech—demonstrates humility and reverence. He received the message with a teachable spirit, recognizing that the revelation came from God.
Prayer and Fasting for Today: Like Daniel, believers can seek God’s guidance, wisdom, and understanding through dedicated prayer and fasting, drawing nearer to Him and aligning their hearts with His purposes.
God’s Encouragement: In times of difficulty and uncertainty, we can find comfort in God’s presence and His assuring words, which strengthen and console us.
God’s Love and Favor: Daniel’s experience reminds us that God loves His faithful servants deeply and watches over them intimately, offering security and care.
Practical Humility: When encountering divine revelations or spiritual experiences, it is essential to respond with humility and a willingness to submit to God’s will and instruction.
